Hi,
I got my Display card this week and I have build a nav1/obs panel for my PIC767. Sofar I have only connected three LED Display for the OBS (course). The number displayed is ok (!) but the intensity of the led lights is very very weak. I have used Kingbright 9mm red SC36-11 HWA, according to the specs the light emitted at 10mA = 600 ucd... Is this not the right type???
Or is there another way to increase the intensity...?
Regards,
Nico

Yes I did. If I switch that external power supply off, the led display goes off as well.
(Strangeley enough the normal leds in push buttons still burn (but weaker) when i switch the external power supply off....)

if you use the power supply from a pc power other then the PC, try to connect a wire from the any metalic part from the power supply of master iocard to metalic part of your computer. Enjoy

You use a DisplayII (Multiplexed) card, no ?
And. ¿ Do you use resistors for displays ?

Hi Ferdie,
Yes, I use the multiplexed version, without resistors. Are they necessary?
I just hard wired another LED Display to show a '1'. Did that by putting +5V via a 470 ohm resistor to segment b, and the same for segment c, and common cathode to GND. That LED Display showing the '1', looks much brighter (! ?) then the three LED Displays controlled by the multiplexed Display card...
??

nico

No... No need to put resistor in multiplexed card.
Dou you have another cable for display<->master ?
Change cable if you have one.
Dou you have another display card ?
Change card if you have one, for test.
I think, display card not receive direct power, only indirect power of data lines.
I use Kingbright 9mm in my MCP and not have any problem ¿?

Have changed cable master card<->display card: no difference...
Have changed Master card by another master card of mine: no difference...
I don't have another Display card to test with ...
Looks to me like the multi-plexing by the card is causing a huge drop in light intensity...??
Nice to hear you're using 9mm Kingbright as well, but there are several different types... Mine is the red SC36-11HWA of 600 Luminous intensity (typ.), there ate also super reds (11EWA) of 1800 Luminous intensity en hyper reds (11SRWA) of 14000 Luminous intensity!
Could you tell me please exactly what type you're using??!!!
Thank you.
Regards,
Nico

I use Yellow display 7 segment, Kingbright model SC36-11YWA.
Display card use 74HC540 for give 20ma for each line. This intensity is good for displays used in cockpits.
Not have detected this problem with any display card users.
You can look those photos of my MCP :
